YORUBA AND THE CALL FOR RESTRUCTURING

YORUBA AND THE CALL FOR RESTRUCTURING

‘’When the goes gets tough, the tough gets going’’. What brought this popular expression is due to the mind boggling situations we find ourselves where every sphere of life i.e. economy, infrastructure, health, education etc. as a country seems to be not just working for us. Interestingly, the people of the federal republic of Nigeria are now waking up to the reality that the federal system of government being run in the country is a scenario of father and children where one part of the country claim cum felt to be the rightful heir to the throne and only relinquish the stool to others whenever she wishes.
Interestingly, the restructuring is being prosecuted through various medium in the southern part of the country and personally the rightful heir is feeling the effect thus dawning on them that restructuring probably regional system of government might be the way but are not ready to willingly surrender their advantages over the others judging their elders statement.
And this brought me to the subject of my write-up; YORUBA AND THE CLAMOUR FOR RESTRUCTURING. What if it really happens? This leads to many questions begging for answers as a YORUBA NATION. Do we have the genuine leaders to fight the cause for us? What is the modus operandi for this call for restructuring? What is the life going to be for us without oil income? Summarily, are we planning for life after restructuring because it will be an illusion for us to think once we go back to regionalism; we will have a better system automatically without working for it. I really do hope we have answers to this mass exodus of questions that are germane to how we thrive in all spheres of life once we go back to regional system of government.
In furtherance for our quest for regional system of government, I do hope our leaders have a master plan for a regional system where meritocracy is the order of the day. As a concerned citizen, I will like to see a regional system where we don’t depend on oil exploration to make our economy thrive simply because we have so many sectors like entertainment, sports, agriculture, and tourism to exploit as a source of income. A situation where we make so many cultural celebrations like Olojo day in Ife, Ojude Oba in Ijebu-Ode, Osun Osogbo an internationally acclaimed events where people comes from the globe to be part of our history. I will like to see a robust system being developed for our entertainment sector to maximally utilize; where piracy will be a foregone issue and people get paid for their talents.
Economically, I believe there are economic plans in place to make life meaningful to the various classes of the society and not an economic situation where the rich will get richer and the poor get poorer. I will healthily advise it is a plan due for review periodically as the Nigeria’s economy demands because it might take longer time than expected for the restructuring to become a reality.
Drawing the curtain, all these aforementioned ideas will work only if we have genuine leaders of yesteryears like the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo whom are ready to fight for the cause and not their pocket. I really do hope they are ready to fight for what is ours in the national treasure once the Nigeria system of government is ready for restructuring.
