An international reputable food security agency under NEPAD called Nutrition Natural Resources Governance and Food Security Programme (NHGSFP) has signified its intention to partner with the Government of the State of Osun on its school feeding program, O'Meals, for quality service delivery of the programme.

According to the agency’s visitor to Nigeria, area of collaboration is to strengthening nutritional component in terms of developing standardized menu and inclusion of Orange fleshed sweet potato to combat vitamin A deficiency among the school pupils in Osun.

The NHGSF programme Manager  Kefilwe Rhoda Moalosi disclosed this on Thursday when she led a team to meet with the state of Osun Deputy Governor Mr Benedict Olugboyega Alabi in his office  in Osogbo the state capital to discuss the scope of the collaboration where the officers in charge of  Osun school feeding programme were also on ground to work for modalities of the collaboration.

Kefilwe Moalosi said part of the mission of the food security agency to the state was to identify critical needs, gaps,  challenges and develop specific technical assistance on the agency delivery in Nigeria through which a specific monitory and evaluation plan would be developed for the state on the school feeding programme.

According to her, the collaboration would also involve the engagement of private sector to support delivery and  make the programme more impactful.

The Programme Manager ,Nutrition Natural Resources Governance and Food Security Programme NHGSFP hinted that there would be engagement of technical lead to facilitate multi sectoral collaborative and synergy to revamp and align with the National Strategic framework and global standards of NHGSH.

"Part of the focus of our mission to the state in this collaboration is to review cooks engagement, strengthen small holder farmers linkage to the supply chain and to give time to time capacity building training to the officers of the programme for quality service delivery through ward level arrangements and cooperative system.

The  Nutrition Natural Resources Governance and Food Security Programme has been in operation in Osun for more than Ten years with impacts and results but needs to be revamped and aligned with the strategic framework and global standards of the agency," she added.

The state of Osun Deputy Governor Mr Benedict Olugboyega Alabi while meeting with the team expressed the readiness of the State government under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to collaborate with the agency for better service delivery of Osun school feeding programme.

" The present Government of Mr Gboyega Oyetola is committed to the welfare of the people of the state particular the younger generation who are the future of the state. The Government is ready to partner with any individuals, corporate bodies and organisations to achieve its good intentions for the people.

The commitment of the rulling APC Government in the state to the school feeding program apart from making it more nutritious, the state has also redesigned it to suit the purpose it was meant for. This has  placed the state on the world map.

This  is evident in the replication of the programme template by the federal government and many state in Nigeria.

This has contributed to the increase in the public school enrollment as well as improving the mental  and physical health of the pupils of the  elementary schools across the  state,"

The economic impact is also enumous as thousands of  farmers and food vendors  have through the programme been empowered to make them self dependence", Mr Alabi said.
