The state of Osun Deputy Governor Mr Benedict Olugboyega Alabi has said on Sunday that as a government and party, Governor Gboyega Oyetola led administration  remain resolute and confident with a strong belief in the judicial system in Nigeria that justice would be done at the end of the legal tussle over the mandate given to them by the people of Osun through the victory recorded at the Osun Governorship election of September 2018.

Mr Alabi  expressed this confidence on Sunday while reacting  to the dissenting judgement delivered on Friday by the Osun Governorship election petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja which declared the Peoples Democratic party candidate Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the election.

Mr Alabi  pointed to the argument of the Chairman of the election petition Tribunal,  Hon. Justice Ibrahim Sirajo who was against the majority judgement as he held that there is no credible evidence on non compliance by the petitioners and also held that the returning officer properly ordered re-run of the election.

He said this shows that the judgement is controversial especially in view of the position of the chairman of the election petition tribunal that the tribunal has gone against the electoral laws guiding it by deducting results and declaring the PDP and its candidate as the winner.

It would be recalled that the Tribunal in a two to one judgement cancelled the results in seventeen polling units thereby deducting two thousand two hundred and twenty seven votes from the votes gannered by the All progressives Congress APC.

It also deducted one thousand two hundred and forty six votes from the votes of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.

A member of the three man Tribunal Justice Sirajo in the dissenting judgement held that the petition was competent and dismissed all the grounds raised in the preliminary objection of the second respondent, Governor Gboyega Oyetola and that of the third respondent , the All progressives Congress APC.

The Osun deputy Governor in his reaction said the judgement is a product of controversy and can not stand the further legal scrutiny and now that an appeal has been raised against it with a strong belief that an appellate court would redress and upturn the verdict of the tribunal.

Mr Alabi expressed confidence that the people of Osun have spoken with their votes through the last governorship election addind that the APC led administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola has the mandate of the people of Osun and it remain unshaken with the support of the people of Osun.

" This is a beginning of a long journey because the judgement delivered by Osun election petition tribunal is just a begging of a journey of a legal process over the petition against our victory at the last governorship election.

We have appealed the judgement, we have the mandate of the people, Governor Gboyega Oyetola's Government remain resolute and confident and we believe that  those at the appellate court  are statemen and wiser judges and would rewrite the wrong and correct the tribunal judgement.

We are very sure that  at the end of the journey, we shall be victorious," The Deputy Governor said.

He however enjoined the people of the state to continue to go about their lawful and normal businesses and activities and continue to be law abiding.

He assured them that the APC led administration under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola remain committed to their wellbeing and would continue to make the security of lives and properties of The people of Osun the topmost of his priorities.
