The fallen heroes, the maimed and families deserve our respect and support, Gov. Oyetola says as he lunched 2019 armed forces remembrance emblems in Osun

Governor of the State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has said that the fallen heroes and the maimed who fought for the peace of the world in the first and the second world wars  deserved respect and support of all, especially the injured among and the families left behind.

Governor Oyetola disclosed this at the government house in Osogbo while launching the 2019 emblems of the armed forces remembrance day celebration.
Mr Oyetola who was represented by his deputy Mr Gboyega Alabi said the relative peace being enjoyed by the entire world would not have been made possible without the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes who surrendered their lives for the entire world to have peace.

According to him, no amount of appreciation  can quantify the love of peace demonstrated by  those  who fought in the world wars  as well as those who served and assisted in various peace keeping operations and the Nigeria civil war witnessed about five  decades ago.

He described the annual event as a good reminder on the need  why Nigeria should widen and strengthen her Democratic system.

He said this could be made possible by avoiding all actions capable of leading to war or other national disasters.

Governor Oyetola maintained that as a state, his administration would continue to support members of Nigerian legion and families of those affected by the wars.

"We keep remembering the people who died or were injured and for the parents of the young men and women who could not come back from wars.

We are grateful that we all live in an environment of peace especially in this part of the country.

We are lucky to live in a safe environment, we have hospitals and police to keep us safe.

During the war, you will not go to school because it will be unsafe.

At night, you will have to switch off your lights and close all the doors, windows and cuttings otherwise, anyone might come and hurt you.

In wars you would see some of your friends hurt and lives would be miserable," he added.

Governor Oyetola appealed to the people of other parts of Nigeria where there is unrest to sheave their swords and embrace peace.
He used the occasion to appreciate the security agencies in the state for their unrelenting efforts to ensure that the state remain one of the most peaceful States in the country.

Speaking on the recent incident of kidnap at Esa oke, Governor Oyetola commended the security operatives for the quick response to the incident.
He then appealed to the people of Osun to rededicate themselves to support the security apparatus by being orderly at all times.

The state chairman of the Nigerian legion comrade Oladimeji Olalere in his address  said the armed forces remembrance day celebration appeal week was set aside globally to appreciate the patriotic disposition of noble men and women who have laid their lives for the unity and stability of their father lands, hence the need to continually pay tribute to them through the annual celebration.

He commended the state government  for according the armed forces remembrance day celebration top priority.

While expressing gratitude to the immediate past government under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for the part played  to move the Nigerian legion Osun state command to its present position. Comrad Olalere congratulated the new government of Mr Gboyega Oyetola for its assumption of office and solicited for the continued support especially in redeeming the earlier pledges of the immediate past government to the Nigeria legion.

"These gallant Nigerian soldiers (fallen heroes) died in various battle fronts or other so that Nigeria and her citizens can live in peace. We are not to forget them so soon or neglect their widows and children and dependants to suffer, rather we should always remember to take good care of them.

To our incumbent Governor and the crew, pls sir, note that after God our creator, you are next, we legionnaires in the state of Osun, the widows and dependants of the fallen heroes and the maimed who suffered various injuries and all other forms of evils of wars are looking to you for us to survive in our struggles," he added.
