Governor of the State of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has tasked all the chairmen of local government council areas and local council development areas across the state to as from now on let their conducts reflect the affirmation of policies, programs and activities of the state government.
Governor Oyetola said this would make them relevant and optimally function as expected of them in the responsibilities they are saddled with as the closest government to the people.
The state governor who gave the charge today at a meeting with all the council chairmen held at the governor's office Bola Ige house, state secretariat Osogbo said his government would support them with all means to make them perform better at their level of governance especially in the areas of grading of critical roads and environmental sanitation in all rural communities across the state so as to upgrade the system of local administration for a better performance.
The meeting which was at the instance of the office of the new supervisor for the local government administration in the state under the current interim management committee set up to oversee the affairs of the ministries, departments and agencies of government in the state had in attendance the Deputy Governor Mr Gboyega Alabi, a former deputy governor in the state Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin, the head of service Dr. Olowogboyega Oyebade, the new supervisor for the local government administration in the state Barrister Adejare Adebisi,the heads of ministries and agencies of government and all the chairmen of local government council areas and local council development areas in the state led by the state ALGON Chairman Hon Boboye Jaiyeola.
Governor Oyetola while addressing the meeting called on the council chairmen to fine tune and consolidate on the gains of the party by performing better and working harder to secure victory for the ruling party, APC in the forthcoming general elections most especially in the state house of Assembly elections adding that government would not be formed or stabilized without securing the house majority.
He announced at the meeting that the Joint Allocation Account Committee between the state and the local government councils wound now be a regular meeting in the interest of stability and relevance of the local government administration.
Governor Oyetola who stressed that Osun must continue to remain one of the cleanest States in Nigeria challenged the council chairmen to make environmental sanitation a major component of their responsibilities.
He then assured them that there would be compensation for the best among them in the area of sanitation.
Governor of the state of Osun said the intention of his government to support them at this period especially in the area of providing good infrastructure is to bring succour to the people just as he informed them that there would be monitoring in their activities particularly on the grading of critical roads in all the council areas saying this is to have value for money and proper execution.
“Because we are in the period of dry season, we will have to do grading of some roads that are critical", he said
The new supervisor for the local government administration in the state Barrister Adejare Adebisi who convened the meeting had earlier stressed the need for the council chairmen to cooperate with him for mutual benefits. He enjoined them to come up with lofty ideas and programs that would make them more relevant and accessible to their people.
