Gov Oyetola eulogises Rt Hon Salam

The Governor, state of Osun Mr Gboyega Oyetola has  described the speaker of the Osun state house of assembly Rt Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam as worthy of emulation for his leadership quality, character,courage and  determination for knowledge and wisdom to lead aright.

Governor Oyetola said this while speaking in Osogbo at a  public Symposium organised in honour of the speaker of the Osun house of assembly Rt. Hon Najeem Salaam to mark the conferment of   Doctor of philosophy degree in political science on him by the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife.

Governor Oyetola who was represented by his deputy Mr Gboyega Alabi congratulated and saluted the  determination and courage of hon Salaam in pursuing academic excellence  and attaining the highest academic qualification.

He said the achievement recorded by the Speaker of the state of Osun house of assembly did not come to him as a Suprise as he has displayed unequalled leadership skills only found in cerebral, urbane  and dynamic personalities like him in all assignments he has handled.

According to Governor Oyetola, his leadership of the legislature in the last eight years put Filip to his astuteness as the Osun house of assembly has been the most productive, cooperative and stable that ensured massive transformation and all round development in Osun.

"It takes discipline, determination to have achieved this academic height, it talks about your character and it shows that our speaker is a man of discipline that believes in development," he said.

The governor maintained that this is an affirmation that education is critical and has a role to play in politics and leadership.
 The discussants at at the symposium while speaking on a topic' Education and the politics of development, any synergy between the two', Dr. Olawale  Olaopa from the Obafemi Awolowo university (O.A.U) Ile-Ife, Dr Mrs R D Ayoola from the Osun state college of Education Ila Orangun, the state head of service Dr Olowogboyega Oyebade and Comrade Dele Adigun.
They argued that if there is a synergy between the education and politics, the Nation would have witnessed more development just as they called for a paradigm shift in education in order to make it impactful on our society.

Speaker after speaker which included The former speaker of the Osun state House of assembly Rt. Hon Adejare Bello, the majority leader of the Osun house of assembly Hon Timothy Owoeye, the Chairman house committee on education in the Osun house of assembly Hon Oladoyin Bamisayemi and APC women leader in the state Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde.

They all described Hon Najeem Salaam as a source of inspiration politically and academically for the  Osun house house of assembly.

They also commended him for been a man full of courage and determination which distinguishes him among the politicians.
They however called on the leadership in this country to rise up to the challenges of the appaulling situation and the backwardness in the education sector in the country.

Mrs Fakokunde  seized the opportunity to charge the women especially those in politics to value education and be an advocate of change in the society.

Responding, the speaker of the state house of assembly, Rt.Hon Najeem Salaam said the reason why he chose to be a reader is to be a leader adding that there should be correlation between the education and governance.

Hon Salaam said it is imperative to have teachers in politics to ensure education and politics of development.

Hon Salaam while lamenting the bad situation in the education sector especially the university education said it is until the universities in Nigeria become problems solvers  by proffering solutions to the leadership challenges that we have in the country before there could be development in the land.

Highlight of the symposium was the cutting of cake to mark the event.

Hon Najeem Salaam who is the speaker of the Osun state house of assembly was yesterday one of the candidates  awarded and conferred with the Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) in political science by The Obafemi Awolowo university (OAU) Ile-Ife having fulfilled and satisfied all the academics and university requirements in that regard.
