Bumper havest await  Farmers in Osun, as Gov Oyetola vows to give  Agriculture, the deserved attentions in its priority profile.

The avowed commitment of the new government in the state of osun  under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to revive, revitalize and put agricultural sector in its rightful position in a way to maximize its full potentials for the economic sustainability of the people of osun  has begun to manifest.

This was as a result of declaration by Governor Oyetola to consolidate on the agricultural land expansion programme (the land bank) with additional target of 20,000 hectares to the land bank and to  establish nine new farm settlements in each of the nine federal constituencies in the state and also to push forward on his promise to establish agro-industrial parks and produce markets in the state.

Governor Oyetola announced this in Ago Owu, in Ayedaade Local government area of the state during the 2018 Farmers Open Day tagged 'Odun alagbinla' which was the second edition held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA farm training center Ago Owu farm settlement.
Governor Oyetola who was represented by his deputy Mr Gboyega Alabi said the annual celebration of Odun Alagbinla was one of the efforts of the state government's demonstration towards boosting agriculture and food security by a way of introducing farmers in the state to improved agro-inputs and modern farming techniques.

According to him, the annual farmers open day is a platform for knowledge and skills that would further provide critical linkage between agricultural research and practice and to get access to informed knowledge and innovative skills in scientific farming and best practices.

Governor Oyetola maintained that his government having realized the agrarian economic nature of the state with the sizeable chunk of her population being  farmers is seriously determined to ensure that farmers continue to have access to agricultural inputs and resources  to enhance their productivity.

He said "you will all recall that agriculture is the priority area in my manifesto and I have identified some of the initiatives that will move the sector forward in the document", he added.

The governor of the state of Osun expressed the readiness of his government to partner with the private sector through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to ensure uninterrupted agro-inputs supply.

Governor Oyetola stated further that another area of focus of his administration is to encourage the youths to engage in mechanised agriculture through innovative financing with a view to create employment opportunities, promoting sustainable agricultural productivity and ensuring food security in the state.

"To consolidate on the achievements recorded by the last administration, we are pursuing our vision  in  agriculture, we will continue to partner relevant institutions and organizations", he said.

The Coordinating Director, ministry of Agriculture and food security Dr Olubukola Aluko who spoke on behalf of the supervisor for the ministry and Director General Office of Economic Development and Partnership Dr Charles Akinola said the gathering would afford the farmers and the stakeholders in farming enterprises to discuss and exhibit their new innovations and various modern agricultural techniques to ensure increase in the productivity of farmers in the state.

He appreciated the support of farmers and people in the state for the immediate past administration and sought for more support for the new government on its effort to revive agricultural sector for all round development.

The event which witnessed the display of cultural heritage had the various farmers associations and stakeholders in agricultural business as partakers where they exhibited their various new innovations and modern techniques in agriculture.
