The Deputy Governor, State of Osun Mr Benedict Olugboyega Alabi has on weekend charged women journalists in Nigeria, the women folks of the fourth Estate of realm to uphold professionalism and  investigative journalism in the discharge of their duties.

He said this will eliminate fake news and bad information being reported and circulated most of time by the media especially about Government capable of leading to apprehension and instigation against Government and one and other.

Mr Alabi gave the charge on Saturday in Osogbo the state capital at the 2019 awards ceremony organised by  the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Osun state chapter.

He lamented about the evil which the fake news, bad information and sensation has done to the country and the world in general.

Osun Deputy Governor maintained that if those in charge of  information management, the media men and women can be more investigative and always cross check facts about every information at their disposal before  publication especially about Government, it would do the society a lot of good.

Mr Alabi said apart From causing confusion and disorientation, bad information and sensational reports could also lead to destruction, war and disintegration among the people.

Mr Alabi  stressed that journalists as part of their duties to move the society forward is to always disseminate  accurate information.

He called for continued cooperation between the Government and members of the  fourth Estate of realm in the efforts of taking the state  and the country to the next level by promoting the good image of government at all time.

"As we all know, the world is fighting fake news, hate speeches and you should be part of the fight.

As a Government, our doors are always opened for you to cross check facts before publication of stories especially about our government of the state of Osun under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.


You are assured of our cooperation at all times" Mr Alabi said.

The Deputy Governor who also used the occasion of the gathering of women in the pen profession  to speak on the power of women gave his total support  for the 35% affirmative action for women in Government.

He said women have always proved to be better than men when it comes to administration and governance.
